Steve Savage and Maria Marcelo are proud Cairns residents, and constantly remind themselves how fortunate they are to call this slice of tropical paradise their home. They love everything about Tropical North Queensland, and if you spend a little time here, you will no doubt bump into them in a rainforest swimming hole, on a mountain trail, enjoying the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, trying out a new restaurant, or soaking up some Queensland sunshine on one of the region’s beautiful sandy beaches. Well, that’s when they’re not working, of course!

As tourism to the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding areas began to boom, Steve and Maria noticed a lack of cohesive, comprehensive visitor information. Potential visitors would have to visit dozens of different websites to plan their vacation; accommodation sites to find hotels, motels, resorts, backpackers hostels, bed and breakfast lodging, farmstays, caravan parks and campgrounds. Then another handful of sites for attractions, tours, river cruises, and diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, and yet more for transport options and rental cars. So much of the information available was out of date, or just plain incorrect. That’s where Cairns Unlimited stands alone, the only true up-to-date “one stop shop” for everything about Cairns and Tropical North Queensland, from Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays to Cooktown and Cape York Peninsula, from the Atherton Tablelands to the Outback, as far west as Mount Isa and Karumba, in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Maria Marcelo has a background in telecommunications and marketing. She hails from the other side of our fair planet, from Madrid, Spain. It’s a beautiful part of the world, but there’s one big problem with Madrid… it’s five hours from the beach! After visiting Tropical North Queensland, Maria knew this was the place for her. The beaches, the islands, the Great Barrier Reef, the tropical rainforest… in fact, you’re lucky to get hold of her, cause she’s always out scuba diving, snorkelling, or working on her tan.
