Birdwatching on the Esplanade

Monday, March 25th, 2013

I’m not a mad birdwatcher, but when half a dozen huge black cockatoos land in a tree by the lagoon on Cairns Esplanade, I will hurry back to the car for my camera :)

Breakfast with the beasts

Monday, March 11th, 2013

Every morning is a bit beastly in our house, but this was something out of the ordinary. As soon as I finished my early morning underwater camera deliveries, I raced home and picked up Maria and Nico for a breakfast to remember. Just past Kuranda, you will find Shambala Animal Kingdom (formerly known as Cairns Wildlife Safari Reserve) where visitors can dine on a buffet breakfast while watching the king of the jungle enjoy his own tasty tucker. Nicholas unfortunately discovered chocolate flavoured breakfast cereal.

The lions weren’t the only attraction; there were tigers, monkeys, hippos, a rhino. But there’s only one king of the jungle isn’t there?
